Please note: By no means is this comprehensive at this point; it is merely a selection of focus areas. It will be fleshed out over the course of the next year.
A great first stop for this unit is Pew Research's People-Press.org. They have some of the best surveys covering just about every topic in American politics. Gallup has a decent Government section as well.
Review Materials
- Core values in American politics (KhanAcademy.org)
- What Factors Shape Political Attitudes (USHistory.org)
- Public Opinion Polling (Constitutional Rights Foundation)
- Polling methodology: see Gallup and Pew Research's Data Labs
- The Globalization of Politics: American Foreign Policy for a New Century (Brookings.edu)
- Comparison of Liberal and Conservative Beliefs (Student News Daily) - This is an older compilation of positions, so not all of it will track. Additionally, politics has changed in the last few years, especially with regard to how each of these groups see each other and talk about each other. It also oversimplifies or generalizes some positions, but it is a halfway decent starting point.
